Fables for a Reconstruction, a Toolkit to Imagine Symbiocene, situated at Earth Rising, the Museum of Modern Art, invites the audience to imagine speculative futures by generating visual stories and artmaking. The installation incorporates a space for a series of participatory workshops. The immersive installation comprised video and soundscapes of nature, interwoven with intergenerational micro-narratives exploring hopeful ecological futures and kinship.
Drop-in and structured workshops invited participants to make and exhibit art by contributing to an evolving constellation of visual fables. Two teenage members of the intergenerational community of practice with whom I frequently work, Tommy Fitzpatrick (16) and Dean Power (15), co-facilitated art-making workshops during the event. The atmosphere was informal and convivial. This inclusive space encouraged informal conversations and provided opportunities for sharing ideas, and for listening to different perspectives on how we can collectively imagine an ecological liveable future.
